Ninth Letter 14.1
"Ninth Letter is a collaborative arts and literary project produced by the Creative Writing Program and School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Edited and designed by faculty and students as part of the core curricula of both programs, the journal's mission is to present original literary writing of exceptional quality, illuminated by cutting-edge graphic design."
Working on Ninth Letter 14.1 allowed me to work with a team of designers, artists, and writers to create a collaborative piece that exemplified the over-arching themes of the written pieces within the issue. This process allowed me to become more familiar with the collaborative process of creating a design that goes from idea to production. This experience helped me gain knowledge in the creation of artwork (mainly paper/digital collage and photography), typesetting/layout design, and every aspect of the printing process of this journal.
Ninth Letter 14.2
"Ninth Letter is a collaborative arts and literary project produced by the Creative Writing Program and School of Art & Design at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Edited and designed by faculty and students as part of the core curricula of both programs, the journal's mission is to present original literary writing of exceptional quality, illuminated by cutting-edge graphic design."
Working on Ninth Letter 14.2, again, allowed me to work with a team of designers, artists, and writers to create a collaborative piece that exemplified the over-arching themes of the written pieces within the issue. Since I had already worked on one issue, I was already familiar with the printing process, ways to create images, and how to typeset/layout the written pieces. Although I was working on the same journal, the content within and the designers I was collaborating with was different this time around. I was able to explore new ways of image making, including using a risograph printer to create images and gradients along the edges of the non fiction section. Overall, the second experience working on the design of this journal was just as valuable as the first time around.
